What we have been up to...

Meta

A good deal.

Through an unfortunate series of events my two main printers were unavailable for use to print out Bree’s school project. So I had to schlep down to the store to pick up some ink for an old Canon printer that we have around. As I was strolling down the aisle @ Best Buy I located the ink, $30 is just about what I usually pay. I shook my head in disgust and was about to head to the checkout when I notice a compact Lexmark printer. Then the price jumped out at me $30! Then the thought occurred to me, why pay for ink for an old printer when you can just buy a new unit for the same price.

Then I had a better idea!! I am never paying for ink again (aside from supplies for my dye-sub, but then again that’s not really ink is it?). Once I run out of ink in the Lexmark I’ll buy another one and sell the old one on Ebay for $13. So now I have cut my inkjet supplies expense in half and will always have a fresh machine. Life is good!

Greek Festival – Westfield, NJ

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church held their annual Greek Festival today. It was rainy but the inside was quite nice. Besides tasty food they were selling a few different tasty wines, mostly reds. Is it wrong to catch a buzz in church? Good food, good music and we won a $25 gift certificate to Stop and Shop.

Here are a few pics.

ICS Chili & Salsa Cook-Off – Toms River,NJ

A few of us headed down to Toms River today for the International Chili Society Chili and Salsa Cook-Off. It was a great time but there a lot of people making bad chili out there. There were a handful of good chili’s and some amusing people (the most amusing is featured on the left) but there was too many people doing too many things to chili.

My two best tips for aspiring chili-heads are 1) moderation 2) stay away from artificial stuff. There were far too many chili’s that were over-sweetened and bunch using fake smoke. If you want a little smoke in your chili try some chipotle’s (smoked jalapenos), but stay away from stuff in a bottle.

American Museum of Natural History, NYC – 15mm Fisheye

We ventured into NYC today to visit the Museum of Natural History. It has a great space center and mineral collection, as well as your standard museum relics. Instead of walking from the PATH we took the subway and it was very exciting. Everyone should make the trip!

Here are some pictures.

Our day in D.C.

Departing from the Princeton, NJ area we treked down 95 to the Nation’s Capital. We didn’t get to see many sites but we have another trip in the works. This trip should have been a few days but we got ambitious and tried to cram too much into one day. We still need to see the Smithsonian, the Viet Nam Memorial, the Capitol Building, the White House and a handful more.

Here are some pictures of what we got to see.
