Blues and Jazz Fest – Red Bank, NJ
| It was just Gabby Matt and Shannon on an adventure today. We braved most the Reb Bank Jazz and Blues Festival. The day was great despite the horrible weather. Gabby was especially cute since the other two weren’t here torturing her. Gabby is quite the daredevil climber.
These pictures only represent a small part of the day because Matt wrapped up his camera in the middle of the festivities. We attended last year and had the same weather.I think we boated past Jon Bon Jovi’s summer home. If there was a Bruce sighting it would have been a perfect day at the Jersey Shore Here are some pics. |
Greek Festival – Piscataway, NJ
We enjoyed all of the standard Greek delights. It was a little light on the entertainment or activities but the food more than made up for it.
A few shots from the day.
Shad Fest ’07 – Lambertville, NJ
| Today was the 2007 Shad Fest in Lambertville, NJ. Lambertville is a quaint little town on the other side of New Hope, Pennsylvania. Matt also happens to work in Lambertville. What is a Shad? “The shads or river herrings comprise the genus Alosa, fishes related to herring in the family Clupeidae. They are distinct from others in that family by having a deeper body and spawning in rivers. The several species frequent different areas on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and in the Mediterranean Sea. The shad fry live for a year or two in fresh water.” -Compliments if Wikipedia
We were able to stop by Matt’s favorite micro brew, River Horse. The best beer ever made is Tripel Horse by the aforesaid mentioned brewery, it’s a 10% alcohol Belgian style dark beer. Full of flavor and packs a punch. You can see pictures here. |
Vacation 2006 – Chicago and Niagara Falls
| We spent a week in Chicago and 4 days at Niagara Falls. During our stay in Chicago we attended the Taste of Chicago festival and the Naperville Ribfest. It was a great time, even the second time around. Niagara was equally exciting. Cave of the Winds, Journey Behind the Falls, Maid of the Mist and so much more.I don’t plan on separating the pics out into their individual days but I wanted to.

Belmar Seafood Fest
| What a day! We started this gorgeous day at the 20th Annual Belmar Seafood Festival. They had delicious lobster and other common seafoods, and some not so ordinary. The highlight of the day was the Spicy Alligator Sausage on a stick, which we later dubbed Gator Gas.We finished the day at Jenkinsons on the Point Pleasant boardwalk. We spent some time dominating our usual carnival games; darts and frog bog. Everyone went home with a cuddly monkey and a few other prizes.

Another Elvis spotting…
| We went to the Red Bank Jazz and Blues Fest today. The weather was pretty junky but good music more than made up for it. It has a really unique downtown and a visit to the Secret Stash is always a must.

Greek Festival – Westfield, NJ
| Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church held their annual Greek Festival today. It was rainy but the inside was quite nice. Besides tasty food they were selling a few different tasty wines, mostly reds. Is it wrong to catch a buzz in church? Good food, good music and we won a $25 gift certificate to Stop and Shop. Here are a few pics. |
ICS Chili & Salsa Cook-Off – Toms River,NJ
| A few of us headed down to Toms River today for the International Chili Society Chili and Salsa Cook-Off. It was a great time but there a lot of people making bad chili out there. There were a handful of good chili’s and some amusing people (the most amusing is featured on the left) but there was too many people doing too many things to chili.
My two best tips for aspiring chili-heads are 1) moderation 2) stay away from artificial stuff. There were far too many chili’s that were over-sweetened and bunch using fake smoke. If you want a little smoke in your chili try some chipotle’s (smoked jalapenos), but stay away from stuff in a bottle. Here are a few pics. |
